These are magazines and a website for dog lovers, those with an interest in canines, and writers that have stories to tell about them.

Bow Ties publishes a stable of magazines and books with a special interest in dogs. It is aimed at pet-loving consumers, pet-supply retailers, trade magazines, veterinarians, breeders and pet professionals and includes websites. Each publication provides specialized information in all-things dog and are distributed worldwide.

Boy Ties Dog Magazines

Dog Fancy has been published for the last 35 years and celebrates dogs and the people who love them. It is read by both first time and long-time owners of purebreds and mixed-breed pets. Topics include:

  • cutting-edge medical developments
  • health and fitness
  • prevention
  • treatment
  • natural therapies
  • behavior and training
  • travel and activities
  • breed profiles
  • dog news

The magazine focuses on responsible dog ownership and has won many awards including Best All-Breed Magazine by the Dog Writers Association of America.

Dog World has been publishing for over 93 years and is aimed at

Writers cover the history, current events, people and dogs that are involved with showing purebred dogs.

Dogs for Kids is for the education and entertainment of kids and preteens. It teaches about respectful and responsible dog ownership as well as the canines needs. It is interactive and includes information about dog related activities and careers aimed at reinforcing the bond between the young owners and their pets.

Dog Series Publications

This series cover magabooks-books in a magazine format-focusing on specific breeds. Included are publication for both puppies and full-grown dogs such as Popular Dogs and Popular Puppies.

Also in the series are Dogs USA and Puppies USA which are guides to choosing, raising and caring for purebred canines as well as mixed breeds. These including information about nutrition, grooming, health care, training and socialization.

Submission Guidelines for Writers

Among all the publications, Dog Fancy may provide the best opportunity for writers. Many of the articles are written by freelancers because the magazine looks for fresh ideas. The readers are generally college-educated, middle class adults interested in dog training, health, behavior, activities, and general care.

Read several copies of the magazine and follow writers guidelines carefully.

Queries only should be submitted to barkback_a_dogfancy.com as they do not accept completed manuscripts. "Query" should be in the subject line. The idea presented should be well-focused information how the topic will be presented and the names of sources to be used. Background information about the writer and credentials should be included. If the article will include an interview with a professional, also include those credentials.

Article usually run from 850 to 1,200 words and may include photographs. Payment is made on publication and varies with quality and length of the articles and the number of author-supplied photographs.
